The biggest main feature we have been anticipating was was the ability to record 3D video, and that feature is indeed here! The video recording functions are accessed through the 3DS Camera app and then by touching the little video camera icon, selecting the photography camera to switch immediately back into image mode. The video recording also has four main modes to capture footage in, these include your standard video mode, interval mode, frame pick and clip link. Interval mode allows you to set a timer between 0.5 seconds and 60 seconds which the camera will wait before recording, frame pick is the stop animation feature which allows you to press the touch screen to take a frame to be automatic stitched together and finally 'Clip Link' allows you to record with a pause button meaning you can record and stop and then continue recording the video from where you paused it.
Smaller but other nice additions to the camera functions include the ability to record using the inner facing 2D camera and also to manually adjust the brightness, contrast, sharpness and also switch between basic effects such as negative, sepia and black and white. My only real gripes with the new video recording feature is the low camera quality which can't really be helped and isn't that much of a deal for what it will get used for.
The StreetPass plaza has also received quite an overhaul and if you gave already used StreetPass a lot then you are sure to be happy with the new features. Most importantly you can now meet people via SpotPass, which I am assuming means receive details and puzzle pieces ect from the people you meet on WiFi games, although I haven't yet tried this yet to confirm. In terms of content there is now many new puzzles to collect and Nintendo will give you one piece from a random puzzle to start you off, me myself receiving a Donkey Kong Country Returns piece. Anyone who has completed the first StreetPass Quest and collected every hat will also be able to access a sequel to StreetPass Quest.
The overall interface of the StreetPass Plaza now contains many new features that enhance the overall experience such as a map of the country you live in to show you which region of the country people you meet live. You will also find a new reward system called 'accomplishments' which you can collect for completing a wide variety of StreetPass Plaza related things such as meeting 100 people or completing one of the Puzzles. Oh and when I say a wide variety, I mean it, there are currently 78 accomplishments to be collected. Finally off to the left of the plaza is also a music player menu that allows you to listen to music you have heard in the StreePass Plaza and there are slots for 35 tracks to be unlocked.
With all the big changes out of the way Nintendo have also tweaked other parts of the console to generally improve features, one such addition is the option to scan any QR code and have the option to instantly open the link in the internet browser. You can also save your payment details to the 3DS console so you don't have to renter them whenever you want to use the eShop.
What is your favourite feature about the new update?
