Nintendo have quietly announced a new 'redesign' for the Wii to be available before Christmas.
This new hardware will be part of a bundle dubbed the 'Family Edition' and will come with a Wii Remote Plus, Wii Sports and Wii Party. It is now designed to be predominately displayed horizontally as opposed to vertically like other Wii models. The only major change is that it ditches the GameCube backwards compatibility to save space to make the overall console about an inch wider than the disc slot. The lack of GameCube support goes to show, this clearly is a 'family' bundle and is aimed at the parents looking for a cheap Christmas gift to help push the Wiis sales on it's last Christmas before the Wii U takes over. On an similar note, the current Wii model will be discontinued, so it's time to say goodbye to the GameCube officially I guess. What do you think of the new console?
UPDATE: Apparently Nintendo of America have no plans to release this model of Wii, strange...
